My films are often meditations on beauty, perception, allegory, sensuality and visual phenomenon. I strive to reacquaint the viewer with the moment of becoming aware of witnessing something - perhaps capture the essence of visual thought that is empty of fixed meaning.

Quiet observations, variations of light, from strong amber glows to diffused greys, intermittently entering the windows of an internal world. A film about coming home, archetypal images where the eternal meets the temporal. Calm reflection interspersed with travel and the endless search for significant forms, personal chapters of collage and remnants.

In the village Gelawas, India I explored life of local girls and women. Rajasthan is the most conservative state in India. The girls often don't go to school and can't speak English, the second official language in India. Mostly at the age of 18 the girls get married. Therefore they don't have much time for childhood. I met girls of different ages and all of them dream about marriage, but no one girl knows who will be her husband. This important decision is taken by the oldest man of a family, who usually smokes opium and drinks opium tea during all days. Dance is a very important part of local culture, every girl can and loves dancing. I asked girls from 5 to 17 years old to dance. They use the same poses every time and never were tired of repeating.

Unterwegs mit Maxim Gorkiy 2014 DE 10:14min

The film is based on six hours of Super-8 footage, shot by a middle-aged German couple during their round-the-world-cruise in 1980. When we first saw the innocent cruelty of this postcolonialist scenery, we were shocked and fascinated at the same time. However, we discovered that in these images contained several nested layers of perception: The tourist's look at the native. The native who performs as an indigenous. The tourist who documents this performance in order to review it later back home. And finally us, who discover this footage as an artifact and see something completely different in it. The voiceover now guides the attention and the judgement of the spectator, and therefore creates yet another layer of perception.

The Space in Between 2016 DE 11:48

The Space in Between is an exploration of the relationships between inner and outer space, between the observer and the one being observed. It is a reflection on digital and performative abstractions, on point of views and self-image representations. The film is composed of two opposite parts. The first focuses on rooms and their surroundings which are rather empty, formal and cold. And the second part slows down the fragmented rhythm of the first by focusing on people in a more sensual and voyeuristic way. The narrative of this film happens in the gap between the camera and the subject, between the reality and its alterations.

Honest Lies 2011 DE 9:45min

Honest Lies leads us through a meditation on moral courage, responsibility, and one individual's sense of impotence in acting against a totalitarian pretension of an unnamed political system. Set entirely in a dark, deserted parking garage Stellbaum's filmic structure draws us into a winding Dantean underworld of thoughts, memories, fears, and imaginations of what is yet to come. In a nighttime car park, a woman driver is caught without any means of escape while circulating nervously and lonely along the many turns , pointers and directions in this vast convoluted architecture. Are the stories truths or lies? The viewer becomes caught up in her escalating dilemma.

Day Two Hundred Seventy Nine Trails 2014 FR-UK 4:22

The film starts with sounds from the streets and the ringing of a bell. It could be the bell of the church, and seems to be located in small town France. The short movie could be interpreted as showing the day cycle in that town, but what is significant on the video level are the ways Brassier melts together the single images from time-lapse. When people appear in the movie, their images are being morphed into each other. The surrounding area of the person is being affected and becomes liquified. On the sound level, Chrysakis is also liquifying local sounds, voices and urban noises that seem to be speeded up without change of pitch.
