Visual field research, the photographic process and the inventive montage techniques, all play a mayor role in his endeavor to realize these questions in artistic ways. The genres essay film and experimental film thus intertwine in visual dense and provoking ways in his work.</p> <p>Klaus W. Eisenlohr combinates art projects in urban space, film, photography, curatorial film practice and educational work in photography.</p> <p>This program presents some newer and older work. Phantasma Pripyat discusses the strange attraction of the zone - the destroyed space of the Chernobyl - for many people, photographers and urban explorer alike. The architecture-related film "Slow Space" deals with the questions of lack of public space in Chicago and has become the starting point for further art works since. </p> <h4>The films: </h4><h4> Phantasma Pripyat<br> D 2011, 12:36 min, digital video</h4> <p>Pripyat, the ghost town in Ukraine that was evacuated in 1986 shortly after the nuclear disaster of Chernobyl has become the goal for many "urban explorers" and their fantasies. People who are fascinated of abandoned places feel drawn to it. Photographers find the ultimate thrill in this decaying city of soviet modernity, which is still polluted by the fallout from the nuclear melt-down. The designers and players of the ego shooter "Call for Pripyat" and amateur designers using Google Earth and Second Life are equally fascinated by the place. The good will to preserve this place as a memory for the dangers of nuclear energy thus mix in uncanny ways with the attractiveness for an ultimate border experience.</p> <p>Completely created from found footage from the internet, the film tries to follow traces and emotions triggered by this phantasma. Since 2012, Pripyat appears on the maps of official tourist destinations.</p> <h4>Slow Space<br> D 2007, 72 min, 16 mm</h4> <p>Slow Space is a film journey through places of glass architecture in Chicago. </p> <p>Slow Space takes the viewer on a visual trip through the city of Chicago without showing the streets or plazas as they may appear in travel guides. Scenes set in open urban space and interviews filmed in private homes complement this passage through public and private places. </p> <p>With his project in Chicago, the Klaus W. Eisenlohr has investigated the relationship between the body and the urban architectural environment over the time period of three years. Searching the anomalies of the normal, the filmmaker traces a 'Desire for Modernity' in the city's architecture being shaped by pre- and postmodern forces.
