from 14.00 Uhr
Marzahner Promenade
starting point: Marzahner Promenade 37
Project:
A direct interaction with people on Marzahner Promenade, a 1.2 km length boulevard in one of the post socialist residential areas in former East Berlin. The action is simple: Painting of white dots on the pavement together with the passers-bye.
Background:
The promenade itself is a 1.2 km long boulevard, which does not function well economically, as a big shopping mall on one end is drawing all consumer interest. Still there usually is quite a number of people walking through without spending much time. On the other end of the boulevard located is a cultural centre, and furthermore, gallery M, our partner for cooperation and a number of temporary artist studios in former shops are located on the strip
Concept:
"Making a dot", drawing a point in German language is a very meaningful action. A dot is always a marker for something meaningful, and people should be asked to mark a place on Marzahner Promenade, which is meaningful to them. A place you pass through every day has many meaningful points: a place were you first met someone, a place which is just familiar, a place where a fight happened etc.
With all the dots, there will derive an overall composition, which could also be seen as a notation, notes on lines, a notation of music on the promenade.
A dot has many synonyms: point, spot, marker, goal, reduction, end, place, point-of-view, and many related meanings: Relation, Position, Location, Site, Arrangement, Base, Aspect, Direction, Kind of, Sense, these all start to interweave.
