Exploring Berlin is an exhibition that tries to leave behind the touristic point-of-view and to photographically explore the city. A photographic method of story-telling using symbols, traces and details was selected in order to create relations between the city, spaces and people. However, in the background always stayed the idea that during times of exploration curiosity is always bound with the feeling of loss.. Levent Karaoğlu
A those places where you find contrasting uses competing with each other, where not every plot is defined by a single use, where you still find ambiguous ownerships, differing times and rhythms of life, at those places the city stays alive and fluctuating. This is why those photographs do not want to linger along past times nor do they try to document a single moment. Instead, they imagine an open city, open to differences in space and time. Klaus W. Eisenlohr
"Exploring Berlin" is a continuation of “Exploring Istanbul". “A group of photographers from "Nazim Hikmet Kulturzentrums" of the twinned city Kadıköy/ Istanbul undertook a week of photography excursion in Berlin. Participants from Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg accompanied the group and thus opened the chances to better get to know the places visited, to communicate easier and to get more insights into the daily life of the city. The camera starts to be a means of communication and a way to create a public discourse. The appropriation through photographic production may also change the views onto the respective hometown.
In spring 2015, the exhibition was first presented at Baris Manco Kulturzentrum in Kadıköy/ Istanbul.
An exhibiton under the umbrella of the twinned city districts of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Kadiköy-Istanbul, in collaboration with Photocentrum am Wassertor of vhs Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Städtepartnerschaftsverein Kadiköy e.V.
