Helin Bereket TR Tourism of Tourism 56 min 06 sec 2010 The favelas (slums) in Rio de Janeiro and the favela tours which are organized for the tourists are the subjects of Tourism of Tourism. Rio de Janerio has become one of the centers of 'poverty tourism' which has spread around the world for the last few years. Tourism of Tourism is a 'monologue' about the daily life in favelas and the tours made there in a touristic, critical, questioning and emotional way, all from the perspective of one person, when favelas are shown as the heart of the drug dealing and poverty in most of the movies. |

Michal Lebski PL Dziurawa Skarpeta / A hole in the sock 36 min 54 sec 2011 The film is about homelessness in Poland. We have collected several short stories about our characters. One of them is about man who has no legs. We have found a new wheelchair and we gave this to him. We added a few interviews with psychology experts and music stars from Poland like Dzem. We show in this film that the homeless people have dreams, and they want to stop drinking alcohol. They try to live normally but they can't. One of our stories is about one character's death but it is only a short part. We have interviewed street workers, who work with homeless people in Warsaw, and some short hip hop music clips are part of the movie. The film was made by youths from an exclusion area in Elk. During the project, they spent their time in ruins where the homeless live. They have had lessons about camera and film and then made this film on their own. Michal Lebski is their coach. |

Richard O'Sullivan UK Treasure Island: A Timescape 30 min 2011 Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. An abandoned military base awaiting redevelopment, the island is stranded between its industrial past and a post-industrial future. A purely visual 'documentary', the video itself is caught in a similar liminal state: by intercutting H.D. and standard-definition footage of the same locations, the film hovers between past and 'future' technologies. |

Anna Okrasko NE Sobota / Zaterdag / Saturday 20 min 31 sec 2011 The video deals with Polish identity and self-confidence, and with its cultural representation in different decades. It combines music from Polish documentaries from 1950's with a new, fictional footage from Rotterdam today. "Sobota / Zaterdag/ Saturday" is an effect of my collaboration with Polish immigrants, who worked together in order to stage, for the camera the contemporary version of a daily routine built around a loose narrative. |

Anna Scime US sunvein' 8 min 31 sec 2010 "Sunvein" travels along Scajaquada Creek, a small, 13 mile long creek, popping in and out of the water from Frederick Law Olmsted's Forest Lawn Cemetery to the Black Rock Canal, as it paints an atmospheric portrait of the city of Buffalo New York's interaction with this stream body - surveying the land surrounding it, its liquid surfaces, and what lies underneath. It is at once an ode to urban wilderness and mediation on manufactured landscape. |
